Government for the People

Government for the People
Essay by Justin D. Lowry

"We the people" is a very strong statement in our history. The Founding Fathers set these powerful words in stone, for they are eternal. Do most people truly understand what these words mean?

Our Founding Fathers used these words in implementing the perfect government at that time. I wish their vision was as eternal as these words. Through bureaucracy, ignorance of government, and dependence that vision has suffered erosion.

They created a government where the common man elected common men to serve them in government, one where every branch was in balance with the others. A market of common men controlled by common men. A country where the prince and the pauper are equal in the eyes of justice and government. Where E Pluribus Unum not only meant many people, one voice, but also out of many states comes one nation.

Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe knew the dangers of a strong, central government. The government now grows bigger and bigger, along with the dependency upon it. This is where true democracy dies. Your vote is sold to the highest bidder not only for money, but also for survival. You depend upon the government so much; you vote for the one that gives you money instead of the one that gives you opportunity. The American dream is not handed to you. You must work hard, study hard, and take it. Everyone needs help from time to time, but they are not offering you help. They are giving you an addiction and dependency to their crumbs and handouts. You become a part of their voting machine.

Break free from this machine. Help yourself; they want to give you a piece of the pie. Instead, make your own pie. Value your independence. Cherish it dearly, and fight for it diligently.
